NUTRITION & HEALTH
The POINT works in partnership with over 20 local churches to provide a healthy meal for students Monday-Thursday, year-round. Without this program, many of our students would go hungry. Hunger has a direct impact not only on a child’s health, but on their capacity to focus and thrive academically, socially and emotionally. Over the course of a year, The POINT serves approximately 21,000 meals to children in our community. When needed, especially during the summer months, The POINT provides students and their families with “food boxes” and helps to connect them to local food cupboards.
On a bi-monthly basis, a nurse from MainLine Health volunteers at The POINT for our “Ask a Nurse” initiative where we invite anyone from the community to come and discuss concerns they may have in a safe, confidential and supportive environment. Additionally, on a bi-annual basis, MainLine Health provides FREE blood pressure and diabetes screenings for youth and their families– a preventative strategy to maintain the long-term health of our community.
On a quarterly basis, ChesPenn Health provides The POINT’s students with dental screenings, dental health kits and education about maintaining good oral health – a preventative strategy to maintain the long-term health of our community.
